Who We Are

We are a non-profit organization serving all of Haida Gwaii run by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by dedicated staff.  We have offices in Masset and Queen Charlotte. We are a member of the National Aboriginal Capital Corporation Association.  Our core funding is provided by Western Economic Development Canada.

Mike is a proud resident of Haida Gwaii since 1995 and joined the Haida Gwaii Community Futures team as General Manager in 2015. He strives to work with the communities of Haida Gwaii with a concentration on community economic development, training and capacity building, and sound business practices. He holds the designation of Chartered Investment Manager® having worked in the wealth management industry for the past 10 years.  

He is a strong advocate of entrepreneurialism and private small business currently serving as a director with Northern Development Initiative Trust and Misty Isles Economic Development Society. In addition, he owns and operates his own small businesses in quarry and aggregate products and small scale log salvage on Haida Gwaii.  Mike also currently serves as an ‘Area D’ director for the Skeena Queen Charlotte Regional District.

Business Development Officer: Firyal Mohamed

For Firyal, Haida Gwaii represents an opportunity to connect to a place and people that exist more harmoniously with nature. As a community economic developer, Firyal's educational background and work experience are supported with on-the-ground experience in; business development, micro financing for small businesses and facilitation in areas of small business start-ups, sustainability and community development.

Prior to moving to the islands, Firyal helped launch the Calgary Tool Library, a community-led social enterprise dedicated to tool lending and learning in the city. She's an advocate of sustainable business development that builds local economies that work better for more people and the planet.

Accounts / Office Manager: Jorden Wolfe


Jorden first experienced Haida Gwaii in the winter of 2010 and returned often to Masset, drawn by the community of people she met. She moved to the islands and settled on Tow Hill Road in the summer of 2014. Jorden left the lower mainland to enjoy a Community centred life with abundant access to nature. She joined the Community Futures team in 2016.

Jorden has worked in a variety of roles with responsibilities across a diverse range of functions. She has enjoyed a variety of work experience with co-operatives, small and large businesses as well as being self employed. Working predominantly in Printing, Food Industry, Trades, Construction Management and as a change management consultant.

IBDS Program co-ordinator: Tsuu dag wiias (Tiffany Bell)


Tiffany is a member of the Haida Nation, who has recently relocated to her homeland. Tiffany is a former employee of Haida Gwaii Community Futures, she enjoyed it so much she decided to come back and take on the Project Coordinator position for the Indigenous Business Development Services Program.

Tiffany has an extensive work history in economic development. Previous work experience includes; Business Development Officer/Special Projects Coordinator for the Aboriginal Business & Community Development Centre, Aboriginal Business Counsellor for Haida Gwaii Community Futures and Information and Communication Technology Trainer for Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada.
